Who We Are

The Community Housing Task Force for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) began as a group of passionate citizens, parents, non-profit executives, and philanthropists focused on inspiring the establishment of safe and enriching permanent housing solutions where people with IDD will thrive throughout all phases of their adult lives. The Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin provides administrative support for CHTFWI.

People with disabilities born within the last 30 years have been taught and invested in since they were born, and in return, they are thriving. People with disabilities can now work in integrated jobs in the community, own their own companies, drive cars, and live as vital, engaged members of their communities. However, there is a significant shortage of permanent, safe, affordable, community-integrated, residential options for people with disabilities and few community-based transition programs focused on getting them there. When we started our work in 2019, there was a 4,700 unit housing crisis in Wisconsin with 4,786 individuals on waitlists for adequate residential services in the next 12 months alone.
